Denise Hammel, RN, MSN, CLSSBB, CPHQ
Denise Hammel is the President and Founder of XcellenceFirst, Inc. (XFI) The impetus to begin XFI came from many years at the bedside followed by a consulting career addressing some of the most complex problems in healthcare and yearning to see the healthcare system evolve into a more efficient and effective industry.
Denise has enjoyed a career in consulting, working internationally. Her project experience spans the range of tactical to strategic in a variety of healthcare environments. The experience includes multiple Health Information Technology roles within a variety of settings.
A nurse for over 25 years, Denise began her career in Critical Care nursing at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. While continuing her nursing practice in critical care, She held an adjunct faculty position at LaSalle University. Denise began her transition into Informatics while working in Disease Management in the late 1990’s. She has experience in CPOE, EMR, Practice Management, eMAR, and clinical documentation implementations. She has presented both locally and at national events, and has authored, co-authored and been cited in several industry publications.
In addition to her technology-based experience, Denise has accrued years of experience leveraging Lean/Six Sigma to transform healthcare processes. The results of these efforts include improved ROI, increased throughput, and more efficient delivery of care.
Denise holds a BSN from Thomas Jefferson University, MSN from LaSalle University, and a post-Master’s certificate in Lean/Six Sigma from Villanova University. Since completing her Master’s degree, Denise has obtained certification in Nursing Informatics, Lean Six Sigma, and a Certified Manger of Quality and Organizational excellence. She has been active on the Delaware Valley HIMSS board serving as board secretary, program chair, and president for multiple terms. Denise is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Society for Quality.
