Denise Hammel, RN, MSN, CLSSBB, CPHQ
President
Denise Hammel is the President and Founder of XcellenceFirst, Inc. (XFI). The impetus to begin XFI came from insights from many years at the bedside, followed by a consulting career addressing some of the most complex problems in healthcare and yearning to see the healthcare system evolve into a more efficient and effective industry. A nurse for over 30 years, Denise began her clinical career in Critical Care Nursing at a large academic medical center in Philadelphia.
Denise has enjoyed a career in consulting, working internationally and nationally. Her project experience spans the range of tactical to strategic in various healthcare environments. Some projects include technology implementation, operational improvements, Lean training and coaching, Project Management training and coaching, quality and safety, workforce development, leadership coaching, job redesign, and acuity management. Denise uses a consultant-coach model to drive project and individual improvements.
Denise holds a BSN from Thomas Jefferson University, MSN from LaSalle University, and a Master’s certificate in Lean/Six Sigma from Villanova University. She is a doctoral candidate in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership. She was active on the Delaware Valley HIMSS board, serving as board secretary, program chair, and president for multiple terms. Denise is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Society for Quality, the Association for Talent Development, the National Wellness Institute, and the American Association of Nursing Informatics. She has presented locally and at national events and has authored, co-authored, and been cited in several industry publications.
